Pride of Place 2009
12/7/2009
Hello All,
![]()
Now that the adrenaline rush is over, Pride of Place adjudication is behind us and the Post Mortem is complete, it is important for me as chairman to take this opportunity to congratulate you all and thank you for a wonderful superb performance on Tuesday last. For the last ten weeks we have been totally focused on Pride of Place and I want to thank each and every one of you for your commitment, participation, hard work and dedication to what turned out to be a brilliant production.
The result on Tuesday was an appropriate and fitting honour for all of the hard work and all of the 18 communities. I have been involved in Pride of Place before with my own Community of Islandeady and I have seen a strong performance from the community on the day, but our 18 community presentation of a 61 Km Trail last Tuesday was just magnificent, we all should be extremely proud. It does not matter if we win an award or not, we have proven to ourselves and to our communities that we are exceptionally proud of our sense of place and the CPHT. Special word of thanks and praise to the two communities of Aughagower and Murrisk for hosting the event, they were both outstanding.

Croagh Patrick Heritage Trail has been nominited for a Pride of Place award. This is an all-Ireland competition which was first piloted in 2003 by Co-operation Ireland. Judging took place on 7th July between 11.00 am and 1.30 pm. Starting at Aughagower Community Centre, where presentations were made, the judges were transported along parts of the route to Murrisk, where the finale took place.
The concept behind the competition is very simple. It is to recognise and celebrate the vital contribution that community groups make to society. The results of the Pride of Place will be made known on November the 21st next in Co. Down.
