Leadership Training in Facilitation

Through a contact made by Jan Hartough of Michigan State University, the TVRCN has been a participating organization in international leadership and facilitators training provided by the Kettering Foundation in Dayton, Ohio.  Since 2004, thirteen community members have visited Ohio to learn about deliberative democracy, facilitation skills, and Kettering’s public issues forum process. They have returned to southwest Mayo with new skills to use in their own communities and to benefit the network overall.  Participants in the Kettering training in Ohio include: Mary B. Prendergast (Belcarra), Tony Cunningham (Belcarra), Majella Gibbons (Mayo Abbey), Norita Clesham (Balla), Patricia Jennings (Ballintubber) , Breege Blake (Clogher), David Hughes (Aughagower), Teresa Carney(Islandeady), Ksenja Kragl (Castlebar), Catherine O’Hare (Islandeady), Philomena Brown (Islandeady), and Grainne O’Dea.  In addition, Jan Hartough worked with TVRCN to hold facilitators training events in Mayo in 2004 and 2006 to provide further training to additional community members.
